Dropsides are a favourite of many trades people including scaffolders and landscape gardeners. The ability of the sides to drop down to a flatbed enhances the loading efficiency of these vehicles especially for items such as pallets, boxes or machinery.
The flatbed design also maximises the available space for larger/ bulkier items. Our single cab dropsides boast an approximate13 foot (4 metre) bed which can accommodate most loads. We also have dropsides with tail lifts available on our fleet that can increase the safety and managability of loading and unloading.
Berkshire Van Hire also offer chapter 8 compliant dropsides with 7 pin tow bars for those working on highways, construction sites or any other industry where chapter 8 has now become the standard. Please note that whilst the vehicles come fitted with a 7 pin tow bar, our insurance covers the vehicle only and not any items or trailers you may tow. It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that what they tow is in line with their licence and vehicle type.
Like the 3.5 tonne box vans, a category B full driving licence is sufficient to operate the 3.5 tonne dropsides.

3.5T TIPPERS
3.5 tonne tipper vans are designed for transporting and tipping materials such as soil, gravel, or construction debris. The tippers come with a hydraulic system that allows the bed to tip backward, allowing you to unload bulk materials with ease. A category B full driving licence is sufficient to operate the 3.5 tonne tippers.
Tipper vans are widely used in construction, landscaping, and waste management, as they provide a practical solution for transporting and unloading materials quickly and efficiently. We have some single cab tipper vans available with tow bars on request only.
In addition to the standard single cab tipper vans, Berkshire Van Hire also offer cage tippers that have a cage structure around the cargo area which can secure loose materials and taller items. Our cage tippers are all fitted with tow bars and the cage mechanism comes with side loading sliding doors and fully opening rear doors for ease of unloading.
